Hosts GB maintain unbeaten start with victory over France

Great Britain made it two wins from two with a 51-48 victory over European champions France to conclude the first day of the King Power Quad Nations at the Sport Wales National Centre in Cardiff.

France showed improvement from their earlier defeat by Canada, pushing Great Britain all the way in a tight contest with little to choose between the 2022 European championship finalists. GB led by a single try at the half-time interval but managed to take advantage of the French side attempting to run down the quarter three clock to gain a crucial turnover in the dying seconds. A strong fourth quarter from the home side meant they were able to hold on to take their second victory of the day, meaning they head into day two at the top of the pool standings.
